Taking Responsibility

In “As A Man Thinketh” by James Allen wrote, “Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.”

That’s a pretty harsh statement for a lot of people. I’ve heard all sorts of excuses from folks why they couldn’t succeed, or why their life is in disarray. They blame other people, the government, or their own unlucky nature. I believe the biggest problem in thinking this way is not that it is wrong (although that is true, too) but that it is a useless thought. It gets you nowhere.

Successful people take responsibility for their own circumstances, and constantly look for ways to make them better.

In the book version of “The Strangest Secret” Earl Nightingale wrote,

The successful person does things; the unsuccessful person has things done to him or her.

The successful person seeks autonomy and makes his or her own plans; the unsuccessful person tends to roll with the punches.
